In reply to your note of even date, I have to inform you that the Sharp's rifle and its accompanying equipage, now returned by you, are received. Those rifles were furnished to the Elders on the frontiers for their accommodation and protection across the plains.

I perceive that you have taken excellent care of the rifle and equipage in question, for which please accept my thanks; and, in addition, permit me to make you a present of the rifle and its equipage, the acceptance of which, in the kind spirit in which they are proffered, will oblige,
