Bishop Peter Maughan,
Wellsville, Cache Valley, U.T.,

Dear Brother:-The bearer, Bear Hunter, and some of his band are here, and he expresses very friendly feelings, and says that he does not want any fuss with any of the whites. I have given him some shirts and tobacco, and you are at liberty to give him some tithing beef, should he need, when you kill a tithing beef creature.

Urge him and other friendly Indians to bring in those who killed the brethren at and near Smithfield.

Your Brother in the Gospel,

Brigham Young
