To Bishop William Wall,
Provo Valley, U.T.,

Dear Brother:--
Br. William Meeks has called upon me in relation to forting, in your valley, and I have told him that I do not deem it advisable to do anything about it until after harvest, for the matter is not sufficiently urgent to require operating in a way that will interfere with properly securing your crops. When you begin to build your stockades, or little forts, it will better accommodate all concerned to let each settlement of 6, 8, 10, or more families join and build their stockades where their interests will be best subserved, but, as before stated, this work need not be urged to interfere with securing your crops. My former counsels, that have been published, are all sufficient.

Your Brother in the Gospel,

Brigham Young
