To the Brethren in Provo Valley, Utah County, U.T.,

Dear Brethren:-We take pleasure in informing you that br. Joseph Stacey Murdock has this day been ordained a Bishop, under the hands of myself and Pres. Daniel H. Wells, and been set apart and instructed to act in his office of Bishop in all the settlements above the toll gate in your valley. We feel confident that Bishop Murdock will enter upon the duties of his office with the best of feelings to perform them in a correct manner, and we trust that you will promptly and cheerfully honor and sustain him in his calling. He will not in the least infringe upon the duties of the Presidents in your different settlements, but will take the supervision of all tithings, so far as the people may feel disposed to pay tithing; so that the tithing is correctly credited to those who pay it, that it is properly taken care of, and from time to time forwarded to the General Tithing Office, with labor tithing so far as practicable, except such articles as his judgement or instructions may dictate him to dispose of for money or otherwise, when circumstances
may render such a course most advisable.

Your Brethren in the Gospel,

Brigham Young
Heber C. Kimball
