Elder James Pace,
Payson, U. T.,

Dear Brother:-

Your note of the 4th inst. is at hand, and I was pleased to learn, from it and other letters of like tenor, of an increasing interest and action manifested by the brethren in Utah toward aiding their friends abroad to immigrate, but at present we are not able to offer any encouragement for such an arrangement as you wish

As you are aware, it requires cash, exclusively, to defray expenses from Liverpool to Florence, and, as we have not now the money either here or in Liverpool, wherewith to pay such expenses, it will be the best policy for you to watch for and improve all chances for making cash trades, from time to time, to the amount you wish to assist, which can be deposited in this Office, and forwarded as you may direct.

Please do the best you can in the matter, and inform us, in January next, as to how you have succeeded and what you then wish to do, when perhaps, we may be able to meet your wishes.

Your Brother in the Gospel,

Brigham Young
