Dear Brother:

The opportunity is so favorable that I hasten to write you a few lines by Bro. Hix, who is about starting for home.

We have no States News later than the 8th inst, at which date no very important single event had transpired of late, but there were several minor events indicating the progress of the work; and it was anticipated that, the neighborhood of Richmond would soon again witness the collision of large and well appointed armies, as both sides appeared to be mustering for a stubborn contest.

The sacks for the oats & barley for the Mail Companies have begun to arrive, and I am footing up the amounts, the different Wards propose to furnish and haul, and learning at what points (at how much a point) the grain is to be delivered, preparatory to notifying the brethren.

There are rumors that the Bannacks and some of the Snakes are inclined to by ugly this season; whether this be so or not, we presume that as farming men in an Indian country, you will at all times be on the alert--prepared for any sudden emergency.

The work on the Temple is progressing favorably and affairs in general are moving on prosperously.

Brigham started for that place on the 16th of July.

Bro Josep. W. Young informs me that there are 3226 persons coming in the 6 trains sent to Florence, besides those in the independent companies and 1335 in the freight train. The last wagon was to leave on the 11th inst. Mrs. Hooper was expected at Florence on the 9th inst.
