Dear Brother:

In reply to your note of the 5th inst., just to hand, I have to inform you that I deem it an excellent plan for the brethren to occupy the location you speak of in Pine Creek, and also, as speedily as possible, every desirable or feasible spot in all your region for a 100 miles round, for farming, or herding, or both farming and herding, according to the facilities afforded by each location. But in so branching out be very careful not to have women or children exposed to the dangers incident to their being left for a moment without men enough for their protection; that point was by no means sufficiently regarded in the first operations on Pine Creek.

Your Brother in the Gospel,

Brigham Young
