Mr. Wm. H, Dame.

Dear Brother:

I am much pleased in travelling through the settlements to observe a growing disposition among the saints to encourage education and other useful and pleasing studies. In times past we have not had the opportunity of educating ourselves and our children to the extent we desired; but now, blessed with peace within our borders and teachers of experience we ought to improve the occasion, that the great good resulting therefrom may be attained.

I learn with pleasure that a number of the brethren in Parowan have purchased musical instruments and music, and organized a musical society for the purpose of improving themselves in the practice of vocal and instrumental music, with brother Thomas Durham as their president and instructor.

I trust that you, bishop W. S. Warren and the saints, will give brother Durham and the society every encouragement and assistance necessary to make their efforts successful, and when I visit your place next season I hope that my ears may be delighted with the sweet sounds of their instruments, and find a very great improvement in the singing of the choir.

P. S. Please read this to the Saints in a public meeting.

Your Bro. in the Gospel
