Mr. Geo. S. Eaton,
45 Monroe St. New York City,

Sir,

In a letter from you, under date of Jan. 12, you inform me that a person styling himself my son, and going by the name of Pratt, had absconded with your best suit of clothing, which cost you $75, and you further add, that if I acknowledge such a person to be my son, you hope that I will make full return for goods taken.

Your room-mate and yourself have been deceived by an imposter, who has palmed himself upon you by false pretences. I have no son who bears or goes by the name of Pratt.

Three of my sons have been in New York this past Summer, going to and from Europe. Their names are Joseph Young, Brigham Young, Jr., and John W. Young. While they were in the City of New York, they stopped at the Metropolitan Hotel and at no other place. The Messrs. Leland of that hotel are intimately acquainted with my Sons.

Respectfully,

Brigham Young
