President's Office,
G. Salt Lake City,
April 22nd /65

Arthur Smith,

Dear Brother:

I have informed you several times that I could dispense with your further services in my employ; the last time I mentioned this was prior to the First of last April at which time I told you I wanted you to quit.

I wish you now to consider yourself dismissed from my Service. My children are now large enough to do a good deal of labor, and I am in a position to get along without your help.

I have tried to be as kind to you as possible thus far, and I still wish to be kind to you; but I do not need your services any more, and I will feel obliged to you, if you will quit.

I remain Your Brother,

Brigham Young
