Elder James Gledhill,
Alma, Sevier Co.,

Dear Brother:-Your letter of the 10th, of Feb. came duly to hand. I sympathise very much with yourself and others of the brethren and sisters who write to me on the subject of emigration; but though my sympathies are strong, I find myself in a position wherein I cannot render that aid that I should be pleased to do if I had the means. The calls upon the Trustee in Trust are very numerous, especially for money. The sending down of 500 teams, and the other labors that devolve upon us, will require all the money that I can command. To bring the Saints from England there must be money paid there on, as ship owners, provision dealers, and railroad companies will take nothing else for the carrying and furnishing <of> the people. Probably your nephew and your children might make an exertion to borrow the means if they do not have sufficient, and send for your family. The present is a favorable opportunity to bring them out, and you should not <let> it pass without your <?> if you can possibly help it.

With love
I remain Your Brother,

Brigham Young
