Sir:--

Your letter of the 30th ult., on the subject of manufacturing sugar from the sugar cane grown here, has been received.

If you can successfully accomplish what you state, the invention is a very useful one; but as I am not in the cane-growing or molasses-making business, I have no wish to purchase any recipe.

There are, however, many persons here who are in the business, who if assured that it would be a success, would readily, I think, make arrangements with you for the recipe.
