Dear Brother:-

We are desirous of obtaining about Twenty Barrels of good Tar for the purpose of putting on the cloth with which we calculate to cover the New Tabernacle

This quantity of Tar should be got out as early as practicable, and we should be pleased to have <the> brethren of your county get it out for us, if they can. We do not want the brethren to run any risks, but by taking proper precautions and following the counsel that has been given, there need be no danger of surprises or attacks.

You will have to keep a close watch for the Indians, They have a particular antipathy against Manti, and have, we have heard, indulged in many threats against it and its inhabitants.

With love
I remain your Brother

Brigham Young
