James H. Normand and Gilbert James, Esqr's.

Gentlemen:

Your favor of the 31st ult. on the subject of coming out here and keeping a Dry Goods Store, has been received.

At the present time there is not much encouragement here for Merchandising. Times are dull, and the goods that are already here and those on the way will glut the market as it never has been before since our first settlement of this country. There have been large amounts of money made here in past Seasons by the sale of goods. If merchants make cost and freight this season, they will do well.

Respectfully,

Brigham Young
