President Orson Hyde,

Dear Brother:

The Poles for our Home Telegraph Line should be Twenty-two (22) feet long, eight (8) inches <in diameter> at the butt and five (5) inches <diameter> at the top, and each Pole should be charred five (5) feet from the butt, and if not charred, should be peeled six (6) feet from the butt, and should be placed four (4) feet in the ground, and the soil be well packed around the Pole; across the divide if they could, be put five (5) feet in the ground <and charred Six (6) feet,> it would be safer and better. The Poles should be set as near an air line as possible.
