President's Office,
Gt. Salt Lake City,
Nov. 7th, 1866.

Messrs. Bartholomew & Co.
Gt. Western Circus,

Gentlemen:

A letter written by you to Mr. Geo Thatcher, and dated the 2nd inst. but which was not received until this morning, the 7th inst., has been handed to me for perusal.

I do not know who could have informed you that it was my "particular request" for you to play for me. I had decided objections to going to witness your performance without paying for my tickets; but was informed that pay would not be accepted, and that I was expected to fill the house. After some importunity I consented to do this.

However, I thank you very kindly for the gentlemanly and liberal conduct of yourself and troupe in playing for myself and company free of charge and herewith send you One hundred and fifty ($150.00) dollars, the amount asked by you for payment of your expenses for the entertainment tendered us.

Respectfully,

Brigham Young
