Prest. Brigham Young

Dear Brother:

After carefully considering the best method of getting the tithing produce brought from the country, we are of the opinion that to offer at the rate of Two dollars per one hundred pounds for every one hundred miles; the hauling to be paid for in wheat at Two (2) dollars per Bushel at the places where the produce is brought from, would be about fair. This would be paying Ten Bushels of wheat at Ogden for bringing 41 2/3 Bushels of wheat or 2500 pounds of any kind of produce, from that point, a distance from this City, of about 40 Miles! Or 221/2 Bushels at Logan, about 90 miles away; or 341/2 Bushels at Fort Ephraim 138 miles distant, for hauling the same quantity. We consider that this is paying a living freight and no more. We are sustained in this opinion by the judgement and experience of Brothers Jno. Sharp, Bryant Stringham, Joseph W. Young Arza E. Hinkley and A. Milton Musser; while others think the figures too low, and that $2.25, $2.50 & 3$ per hundred should be paid.

With the many exchanges made to the advantage of the Tithing office, we think we can, on the foregoing terms, get the balance of the produce brought in from beyond Provo and Ogden, without much trouble.

If you are willing we will hereafter offer the above terms, or any other terms that you may suggest, to the many persons who desire to haul tithing produce, with the further consideration that they do not obtain nor expect feed for their teams from any of the Tithing Offices.

Very Respectfully Your Brethren in the Gospel
