Miss Nannie Douthill,

Your favor of yesterday reached me to-day. I never heard, until I received your note, of such a report being in circulation as you allude to. Certainly such an idea was never entertained by me; and who would start such a story I cannot imagine. I have not the slightest objection to having an interview with you; but there is no necessity for it, and you need not give yourself any concern about such a report.

If you could obtain board in some private family, during the absence of your brother, you would have more company, and it would be much pleasanter for you.
