Dear Sir:

I have heard of your poor health with regret; I hear that you are now better, which is gratifying. I hope that your health is now fully reinstated. The excellent progress made in pushing the Road westward has been very interesting. We already feel the benficial effects of the Shortened distance for staging and wagoning, and think that during this coming Summer your operations will so reduce the distance that a trip to the States can be performed with comfort and ease. We wish you every success in your great enterprise.

I understand that flour is bearing a pretty high price now in the States, and I would like to know whether it would be any object for us to send down flour to the end of the Rail Road to furnish you with the supply that you need for your hands by our teams, which will go down this Spring to bring up freight.

Times are quiet here; good health prevails; but all kinds of business very dull, and but little money is circulating.

I hope to see you here again before long. With kind regards I am

Respectfully

Brigham Young
