Dear Sir:-

Permit me to introduce to you the bearer of this letter, Hiram B. Clawson, Esq., a merchant of this city, of the firm of Eldredge & Clawson, who visits your city on business.

Mr. Clawson is a gentleman with whom I have been intimately acquainted from boyhood, and who I can recommend to your favorable consideration. Any courtesy you can extend to him will be appreciated as though rendered to myself.

Mr Clawson is empowered to act as my attorney in arranging some unsettled business connected with the contract for furnishing poles for the new Telegraph line across the continent, between Messrs Barney, Morgan & Co and myself. Any advice &c you may feel to give him in arranging these matters will be gratefully appreciated by

Yours truly,
Brigham Young
