My Dear Sir:

Your favor of April 10th reached this City while I was absent on a visit to the Southern part of this Territory. I delayed acknowledging its receipt, in consequence of the non-arrival of the Reports which you so kindly forwarded to me. The mails have been seriously delayed, through Indian difficulties and high waters, and I only received the Reports a few days ago.

I am under many obligations to you for your courtesy, for which please accept my thanks
