Dear Sir:

I have received a letter (a copy of which I enclose herewith) from L. Frost & Co., in which they state that a Mr. Smith bought a bill of goods of them, while on his way to Europe on a Mission, on which there was a balance due of Two Hundred and Forty-nine Dollars and eighty-five cents ($249 85/100) for which he gave the note of "Smith & Thompson," payable at Halsey & Co's. at this City; but which still remains unsettled. We could think of no other person of the name but yourself as likely to be the partner of Bro. Smith. I should like to hear from you on this subject.

Respectfully

Brigham Young
