Dear Brethren:

I think the better course for you <to> take under your present circumstances will be to take you another wife, one that will nurse you and take care of you, and go on your Mission South, Leaving your wives that you have now at Provo. Should your circumstances not admit of your taking another wife, and you cannot go south, then you should see to your boys and direct their labors and take a proper care of your family. From what the brethren tell me I think you need to be cautioned about your second wife leading you. No elder should be led by his wife. If she threatens to leave you, let her go. It would be the best thing that could happen to you if she were to do so, if you try to do your duty.

Your brother,
Brigham Young
