Dear Madam:

Your favor of last Spring came duly to hand. As the Hon. W. H. Hooper is on the point of starting to Washington to take his seat in the approaching Congress as Delegate from this Territory, I take the opportunity of dropping you a reply to your letter. We have no objection to your reuniting with the Church at Philadelphia or any other place where you can find a branch, or a legally authorised elder to baptise you, and we trust that the sad experience of the past will be profitable to you in the future. When a man or woman has a standing in the Church of Christ and the fellowship of the Saints, they ought to be valued more than any earthly considerations besides. Life itself is insignificant compared with these blessings, for without them it loses its enjoyment to those who love the truth. Men may err, but the truth which God has revealed will stand for ever. The ordinances of the Gospel, if obeyed and strictly honored in our lives, will bring us back into the presence of our Father and God, and we will overcome the temptations and weaknesses which beset mortality in this world. Should you see Bro. Hooper he can give you all the news respecting our situation out here. Peace and quietness prevail and the Saints enjoy their religion and the quiet homes which their God has given them in these mountains.

With kind regards to yourself and husband I remain your servant in Christ

Brigham Young
