Dear Brother:

Your favor under date of came to hand yesterday, so far as I can judge, you have done right in seeking lodging near your [?]

You will previously have written for your brother Joseph ere this reaches you, and I am desirous he should join you as soon as practicable, that you may continue your labors together.

It will undoubtedly be to your advantage to improve every opportunity to instruct yourself by spending as much time as may be convenient in Dr. Sayre's office, for I understand that he has a well stocked library and is, a great portion of his time, conferring with patients giving advice which for variety and utility could not perhaps be excelled on this continent; and the information which you would thus be able to acquire would prove of infinite worth when you are called to act in your profession.

You are perfectly right in deeming it unnecessary to study medicine; surgery will be much more useful in our Territory than the practice of medicine, simple remedies such as the hirbs and mild drinks are in operation in our faith, and it is my opinion that too many of our people run to the doctor if they experience the slightest indisposition, which is decidedly opposed to the revelation which govern us as a people.

I am quite content with the accounts of your expenses and the probable cost of your course of instruction in New York.

I refer you to your letter of instruction for information respecting my feelings, and the proper course for your brother Joseph and yourself to pursue in order to acquire the greatest amount of information with regard to your profession as an elders in Israel, and also as a good practical surgeons. Take that course which will ensure <the> presence of the Spirit of the Lord, and you will accumulate knowledge, make friends, and establish a reputation with your brethren and all good men, and which will be a foundation for your ultimate exaltation in the presence of God.

The people are enjoying pretty good health as far as I am aware and peace reigns through the Territory.

Rock hauling for the Temple has pretty much ceased in consequence of bad roads and I hear it remarked by many how much the climate has changed within their recollection.

Your family and friends so far as I know are well; the brethren in the office join in kind regards.

Praying God to bless you
I remain Your Brother in the Gospel
