Dear Sir:-Enclosed please find my Check on California State Telegraph Co. for Three Hundred and Forty Dollars ($340.00) in gold Coin I wish you to please purchase
100 gallons best Sperm Oil in Cans

6 boxes best Star Candles.

They are for my Cotton Factory at Washington U. T. Joseph Birch, Agent, and should be marked to him and shipped to care of Erastus McIntyre, San Pedro. The draft it is thought is sufficient to pay all charges up to that point. Please buy and ship without delay, as the teams started several days ago from our southern settlements which are to receive and haul the <above> freight from San Pedro. Please forward accounts to me of the same.
