President's Office,
Feb. 1st 1869.

James W. Taylor
Lehi:

Dear Brother:

You write to me asserting that you are insulted, taunted and upbraided in public meeting as one operating against the kingdom of God' &c., because you will not deal with the Lehi Co-operative Store.

Am I to understand that bishop Evans wants to compel you to trade at their Co-operative Store?

My judgment is, that you have a perfect right to trade where you please, except with our enemies, and I wish you to show this to Bishop Evans.

At the same time as these Co-operative Stores have been instituted with a view to public good, and are calculated, if wisely conducted, to benefit us; it is to our interest to give them our support; and, since they can only exist by the brethren uniting together, if every one felt as you do, they must speedily fall to the ground.

Hoping that this matter may go nor further, and that you will settle your difference with the bishop as soon as he returns.

I remain,

Yours in the Gospel,
Brigham Young
