Governor L. Stanford.
Prest. C. P. R. R.

Dear Sir:-

The bearer of this Mr John Sharp, is one of the executors in the estate of the late Bishop C. W. West, of Ogden City. & in his consideration, as well as his acquaintance with the general character of the work
performed on the C. P. R. R. by your contractors, Benson, Farr & West, he now accompanies Mr. Farr on the business of that firm. Permit me to solicit for him your favor & consideration as a gentleman in every sense worthy.

Having been asked by these gentlemen to give in writing a statement of the understanding under which
their work was performed, I will briefly state that on several occasions, similar promises were made to
me, the facts being substantially these:-- You promised me on one occasion that if I would telegraph
Bishop West to take charge of the work in question & crowd it through, you would see that he was made whole or indemnified to the full extent, that it was no matter what the work cost, the object was to have the work done.

I feel well assured that the energetic measures taken by these contractors were made in consequence of
this promise which they accepted from you in the very best faith.

Yours with respect
Brigham Young
