Dear Bro:-

Yours of the 20th ult. has been received. Prest. Young is from home on a trip south & has left me to attend to his correspondence. With regard to your inquiries I shall be pleased to answer them, though I must neccessarily be brief as we are quite busy. 1st There are a few more Gentiles than formerly in some of our settlements -- in others there is not. It is probable that Gunnison may still be without a
Gentile resident though I am not certain of that. 2nd The Black Hawk war has terminated & he & his Indians are again quite friendly. 3rd There are a few of the brethren on the Sandwich Islands, chiefly engaged with the natives in raising sugar which is mostly shipped to this Territory. As to your learning Dentistry or Photography, they are both useful arts, but in a country like ours, much more dependence is to be put in Agriculture as a means of support than any other branch of business, though we hope in time to see all the useful Arts & Sciences extensively patronized among us.

Trusting that you may be spared to return, & realize every righteous desire

I remain Your Bro in the Gospel.
