Mrs. C. Averett.

Dear Sister,

President Young is now in Provo, but before leaving he directed me to answer your letter regarding baptism for the dead. It is the privilege and right of the nearest blood relative to be baptized for those who are dead. If your son Elijah was such, and you have no other sons, or if you have and they are not
willing, then it is the right of your grandson, and he is old enough now. Any one who is old enough to be baptized for himself is old enough to be baptized for the dead. Bro Wells is at present attending to this ordinance of the gospel every Wednesday at the endowment house in this city. Regarding your other questions all I can say is, borrow no trouble, there is no cause for anxiety, if there be wrongs anywhere the gospel is able to redeem and save to the uttermost

Your Brother in the Gospel
