Dr. W. Jones,
St. Joseph Mo.

Dear Sir.
Your favors of 13th & 14th are to hand, and have been given me to make reply. Most of the inhabitants of this country have gathered with a sincere religious conviction that they were doing that which was pleasing in the eyes of God. With these feelings they have been prepared to accept, all the dispensations of His providence as their greatest good, and their temporal concerns have been a secondary consideration. Yet few who are persevering and industrious have failed in making a comfortable living.
Certainly not many have accumulated great riches, for Utah is not the best place in the world to make a fortune rapidly, but it is a good place for Latter-day Saints, those who wish to serve the Lord, and keep His commandments.

I have no doubt that you could make a living here, as mines are being developed and there will be considerable assaying to do, and if not in your direct line of business you might find employment in some kindred occupation.

Praying that the Lord may lead you to a knowledge of the Truth, and to the acceptance of His laws.

I remain, Very Respectfully &c
Geo. Reynolds
Clerk to Prest Young
