Sir
Your favor to President Young has been handed to me to reply to. Trade is at present very dull in this Territory, wages comparitively low, and no demand for labor of any kind. I cannot honestly say that I think you would better your condition by coming here at present; still the country is as free as any other portion of the Union for persons to come and go as they please, but at the same time if actuated by the desire of making a fortune, I do not think you would do it as quickly as in many other portions of the country. Most of the inhabitants gathered to Utah from a deep religious conviction that it was the will of God that they should so, and it is that same feeling that causes them to remain. For such Utah is the best place in the world, but of the few who came here for the purpose of making money, many have gone away disappointed

Very Respectfully Yours
Geo. Reynolds
Clerk to President Young
