Hon. Jno. Duff,
Vice President U.P.R.R. Co.
Boston.

Dear Sir:-Yours of 28th ult. has been received since my return home. I have had an interview with President B. Young with a view to ascertain about the subject of your letter, and I now would like to learn officially what are the wishes of the U.P.R.R. Co respecting leasing, or running, or even purchasing the Utah Central Railroad or a portion thereof, so that I be ready prepared to avail myself of the first opportunity that presents itself to represent your wishes in relation thereto, which I shall take much pleasure in doing.

Very truly yours
John Sharp

P.S. I wish to effect a loan of about Two Hundred Thousand Dollars upon the security of the Utah Central R.R Company Brigham Young personally and myself, and would be pleased to learn from you how it can be done and it would greatly oblige me to learn what the U.P.R. Co terms would be if they or any of them could do it.

J.S.
