Salt Lake City,
Aug't. 10th, 1870.

Messrs. A. Carrington and Joseph W. Young,
Gentlemen:

The propositions which I wish you to make to the representatives of Dr. J.P. Newman in the pending discussion are:

The meetings to be of two hours' length, and each speaker to occupy half an hour apiece, which will admit of two arguments being made on each side at one sitting.

Or, in this case this does not suit, then:
The meetings to be of two hours' length, and each speaker to occupy one hour apiece -that is, one argument to be made on each side of the question at every meeting.

Dr. Newman can either make the opening speech, or not, as he chooses.

The discussion to be held in either of the Tabernacles in Salt Lake City, in the daytime, and to be continued as long as desired.

Yours truly,
Orson Pratt, Sen.
