Elder John W. Young.

My Dear Son:
Last evening I was agreeably surprised by the arrival of your uncle Joseph and Seymour B. both in good health and spirits, though somewhat fatigued. I was also very pleased toreceive a letter from you, though sorry to hear that Libbie's health as not been as good as could be wished. Your little son Johnny is staying here with us, and is as happy and in as good health as a child can be. He is quite at home with the children, has lots of companions and goes every day to see his grandmother. I also see him every day. I intended to have spoken to you regarding his paying me a visit before you left, but my attention was constantly drawn away by some one speaking to me on some other subject. I spoke to the folks after you left and they were quite agreeable for him to come with us, and he is having a very pleasant time.

I am thankful to say my health is good, so is that of the family generally. Nettie however has been very sick for the last few days, but she is now better.

Accompanied by President Wells, Elders Brigham Young Jun. Jesse W. Fox, D.B. Huntington, Asa Hinkley, A.M. Musser, and others I shall <start> tomorrow morning for the Kanab. Prest Smith go with us as far as Nephi, and then return and take charge affairs in this city. I expect to be absent about three or four weeks. But little of any importance has occurred since you left. Governor Shaffer has gone to California. The new Secretary and Chief Justice have not yet arrived.

With love to yourself and family
I remain as ever, Your affectionate Father
Brigham Young
