Sept. 5, 1870.

Bro. Staines,
The enclosed "Statement of Transportation furnished Mormons on Mr. Staines orders", was forwarded to your address in this City, and by your family was sent to this office. I enclose it as you may require it with you. The President is gone south -- started 26th ult., will return before next conference. I telegraphed you to day by his directions, in his name, to dispose of the amount ($12,879) realised from sale of the Shares, by placing $5,000. with H.B. Claflin & Co. to credit of Z.C.M.I. & balce same way with Riggs & Co.

How bro. Eldredge will manage to send out the emigrants and pay Drafts I don't know, but he will surely need to have the R.R. transportation of the last company paid by you over the U.P. without furnishing you the money, and as your acct. with the U.P, is still open, the above mentioned plan might relieve temporarily and the account can be settled after your return.

Yours truly
T.W. Ellerbeck
