Dear Sir
Your favor inscribed to Rev. Joseph Smith, but directed to Rev. Brigham Young is to hand, and here permit me to say that with us there are no reverend's, as we believe that title belongs to our Heavenly Father alone. President Young being absent from home and having directed me to attend to his correspondence I have taken the liberty to write you a few and have also forwarded you some pamphlets which relate to our history, faith and doctrines; two especially bearing upon the subject which forms the principal item in your communication. Our faith in the doctrine of a plurality of wives, is not based on the lives and actions of the worthies of ancient days; but we appeal to their examples and teachings to prove the righteousness and wisdom of our position and the harmony of the revelations of God. Our faith in that principle rests upon the revelations of Heaven, to us in these days, more especially on the one given to the Prophet Joseph Smith, which you will find contained in the "Answers to Questions" sent you. Should you desire further information than these pamphlets contain I shall be happy to answer any enquiries that you may be pleased to make on any doctrine believed in and practised by the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints

Respectfully Yours
Geo. Reynolds
Clerk to Prest Young
