Hon. Vernon H. Vaughan.
Sec. of State for Utah Territory.

Dear Sir:

Yesterday a lady by the name of Tisley, who informed us she was in your service, called at this Office, and stated that yourself and a Mrs Stenhouse accused her in the presence of your family of having written three letters to President Young apprising him of a conspiracy said to be on foot amongst Federal officials here to assasinate him, As all letters addressed to President Young pass through our hands, we are in a position to state positively that no letters on any subject have been received here from the above named lady, President Young, at first, seemed disinclined to believe that her statements were serious, imagining the thing to be too preposterous for him to give credence to it for one moment. he however informed the lady in our hearing, that he had no recollection of having seen her before and certainly had received no letter or communication of any kind from her.

At the request of Mrs Tisley, and in order to calm any irritation that the accusation of being implicated in this conspiracy may have caused you, we beg most respectfully to submit the above facts; at the same time permit us to suggest that you have been wilfully misinformed, and we hope you will give yourself no concern whatever about what is evidently a malicious fabrication invented and forced upon your notice with some sinister design.

With sentiments of respect.
We remain, Yours Very Truly
Geo, Reynolds
