S. L. City, March 20. /73.

Heber Young,
Soda Springs.

My dear Son.

Yours of Feb. 6. only came to hand on the 16th inst.

We were pleased to hear from you, and to learn that yourself, wife and child were well.

My health is good for which I feel very thankful, and so is that of the family. It is a general time of peace and health, although we have a few cases of small pox, but the quarantine officers are taking vigilant measures to corral it.

Bros. Hooper & Cannon returned from Washington last Saturday, both feeling first rate.

A party of the brethren with 2 bands of music met them at Ogden and escorted them to the City.

The weather looks like spring, snow has entirely disappeared from the Valley and the farmers are putting in their grain.

With regard to alterations on the house to which you allude, I do not want any made at present. When they are wanted I will dictate them. It will be necessary to use some care and judgment to avoid providing shelter for the vermin, when the house is fixed, and that, among other things is one reason why I want to dictate it.

We hope to see you soon, now that the Railroad is being pushed northwards.

With best wishes for your success,

I remain, Your Affectionate Father,
Brigham Young.
