Bishop Allen Weeks

Dear Brother,

It is with exceeding painful feelings that I learn of the loss of your two sons by the Indians. I recommend that you keep friendly with them, and get the other Indians who probably know nothing of this affair to seek them out and bring in the guilty ones, and deliver them up to be tried. It is presumed that those who committed this deed, are some who would not come in and be friendly.

The deed is done, and now cannot be helped, only to serve as warning to others. Let all the brethren be friendly to the Indians, have no feelings against the friendly ones, and they will probably deliver up the guilty ones.
