Hon. William H. Hooper,

Dear Brother: Alfred Moyes claims two heifers which John Hess sold to you that were estrays. I have never fully been satisfied that they were his. In order to more fully test the matter I proposed that he should go to the herds in company with some one you should select, and pick out the said heifers. If the ones he picked upon should prove to be the ones you purchased from Bishop Hess, I should conclude that they might be the ones he claimed; but if he should claim some purchased from others which I doubt not you could tell, it will of course prove that we did not have his stock. Please accommodate this matter, and send me the result so that I can settle with Bro. Moyes.

Your Brother in the Gospel,

Daniel H Wells
