Sir:--
In reply to your note of above date and place, I have to inform you that your remarks and conduct, of late, as reported to me through what I deem reliable channels, have been of such character as to preclude my granting the interview you request. In case you imagine that you have any matter of the least consequence, to which you wish to call my attention you are at liberty to inform me thereon by letter.
