George Davis Grant (1812-1876)

10 Sept. 1812–20 Sept. 1876. Farmer. Born in Windsor, Broome Co., New York. Son of Joshua Grant and Athalia Howard. Moved to Naples, Ontario Co., New York, by 1830. Married Elizabeth Wilson, 22 Jan. 1834, in Naples. Baptized into Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints by Don Carlos Smith, June 1836, in Ontario Co. Moved to Kirtland, Geauga Co., Ohio, by Mar. 1837; to Far West, Caldwell Co., Missouri, Sept. 1837; to Quincy, Adams Co., Illinois, Jan. 1839; to Nauvoo, Hancock Co., Illinois, Mar. 1840; to Plymouth, Hancock Co., Nov. 1840; and to near Carthage, Hancock Co., Sept. 1843. Ordained an elder, 8 Apr. 1840. Carried news of deaths of Joseph and Hyrum Smith to Nauvoo with David Bettisworth. Ordained a seventy, 8 Oct 1844. Appointed president of Sixteenth Quorum of the Seventy, 19 Jan. 1845. Admitted to Council of Fifty, 8 Sept. 1845. Left Nauvoo to go west, 11 Feb. 1846. Arrived in Salt Lake Valley, 22 Sept. 1848. Served as general in Utah Indian wars. Moved to Bountiful, Davis Co., Utah Territory, by 1860. Died in Bountiful.
