Levi Richards (1799-1876)
14 Apr. 1799–18 June 1876. Teacher, mechanic, inventor, physician. Born at Hopkinton, Middlesex Co., Massachusetts. Son of Joseph Richards and Rhoda Howe. Baptized into Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, 31 Dec. 1836, in Kirtland, Geauga Co., Ohio. Ordained a high priest, Dec. 1837. Migrated to Missouri; resident of Far West, Caldwell Co., 1838. Fled from Missouri to Adams Co., Illinois, by May 1840. Served mission to England, 1840–1843. Married Sarah Griffith, 25 Dec. 1843, at Nauvoo, Hancock Co., Illinois. Member of Nauvoo City Council. Admitted to Council of Fifty, 11 Mar. 1844. Served mission to Great Britain, 1848–1853. Settled in Salt Lake Valley, 1853. Ordained a patriarch, 1874. Died at Salt Lake City.
