Know All Men By These Presents,
That I, Brigham Young, Ex-Governor, and late Ex-officio Superintendent of Indian Affairs of the Territory of the Territory Of Utah, do hereby appoint and constitute the Honorable William H. Hooper, the present Delegate in Congress from the said Territory, my true and lawful Attorney, for me and in my name, to adjust severally and all my accounts with and claims upon, as Governor and Superintendent aforesaid, the Government of the United States, or the proper Department or Departments thereof, and for my use and benefit to receive from the aforesaid Government, or from the proper Department or Departments thereof, severally and all such monies as are due from the aforesaid Government to me as Governor and Superintendent aforesaid, and, when paid and received, to receipt for the aforesaid monies and fully discharge the aforesaid Government in such manner as may be satisfactory to the officers having in charge the management of the aforesaid accounts and claims and the payment thereof, hereby ratifying and confirming all that my aforesaid Attorney shall do in the premises, by virtue hereof, to the same effect in law as if I was personally present and did it myself.

Be it remembered that on this [-] day of September, A.D. one thousand eight hundred and fifty nine, before me Elias Smith, Probate Judge for said County, personally appeared Brigham Young, to me well known to be the individual described in and who executed the foregoing power of attorney, and acknowledged that he executed the same for the purposes therein mentioned:--

Seal Lake County to be affixed at my Office in Great Salt
