Dear Sir:--
I am much gratified in being able, through the politeness of our Delegate, the Hon. William H. Hooper, to forward to you the payment, principal and interest, of your first note on C. A. Perry & Co. I regret being obliged to inform you that Mr. E. H. Perry, one of said Firm doing business in this City, says that his partners have notified him not to pay your second not on them; which will be due in a few days. Cap. Hooper and Gen. Horace S. Eldredge both conversed with Mr. E. H. Perry touching the payment of the second note, but seemingly to no purpose. If Mr. Perry persists in carrying out the aforesaid instructions from his partners, Mr. C. A. Perry and others in the States, you will understand at once that he compels me to put the note in protest, and commence suit for payment. I was in hopes that he would have viewed the matter in the light in which it was placed before him by Gen. Eldredge and Cap. Hooper and have waived the few days and paid the second (note) that I might, by so reliable an opportunity, have forwarded the total of (torn away) from the aforesaid Firm.
