Mr. Peter Schuttler,
Chicago, Illinois,

Dear Sir:
At date of my last writing to you I hoped that Mr. Perry would pay at maturity the note he has suffered to be protested. The Hon. W. H. Hooper and Gen. H. S. Eldredge called upon Mr. E. H. Perry, just previous to the departure of Mr. Hooper, and Mr. Eldredge stated the terms upon which the wagons were procured, but Mr. Perry declined paying the note, stating that his partners in the States had instructed him not to pay it. Directly after maturity it was protested for non payment by Mr. C. E. Bolton, Notary Public, <a copy of> which protest please find inclosed.

Notwithstanding the protest, I am taking and shall continue such steps for the collection of said note, at the earliest possible date, as my judgement, the law, and circumstances will permit.

Regretting my inability, through Mr. Perry's refusal to pay to forward your money as I had anticipated, I remain,

Very Respectfully,

Brigham Young

P.S. If you wish me to withdraw the suit and forward the papers to you, please inform me; otherwise it will go on,
