Sir:--
Your letter without date, came to hand on the 29th. ult., and agreeable to your request, I answer at once. Your age, the stated helpless condition of your large family, and the inferred state of your health all combine to render the possession of means at least somewhat desirable, and no doubt you imagine that you could use, to good advantage, more of this world's goods than are now in your possession. Under these circumstances I can but advise that you accept the $100,000 offer made "by different Firms", which, with ordinary prudence and economy, will afford certainly some facilities for providing for your own and the wants of your "large and helpless family," and prevent your being at the trouble of sending so far as Utah for the small contribution of $45,000.
