Bishop, Philo T. Farnsworth,
Beaver Co.

Dear Brother:-Your letter of March 17th., as also other letters from your place, having been duly received, the contents of which relative to the situation of affairs at Beaver have been duly considered; And in reply as regards your position, I have only to say to you, continue to act in your office and calling, as Bishop, performing your duties, and administering the affairs of your calling kindly as a wise counsellor and as an affectionate father toward those over whom you have been called to preside, at the same time dealing with all men irrespective of standing, position, calling or name as directed by the Spirit of the Lord and that wisdom which yourself and your counsellors are entitled to enjoy, permitting no one, what ever his position or influence, to over ride you in your office or to overstep the principles of righteousness and truth.

If in pursuance of your duty and calling in the spirit of kindness and brotherly love, men find fault with you, let them do so, you have nothing to fear from such, their folly will sooner sooner or later be manifested to their shame and confusion.

If any of those who are set over you in the gospel see fit to chastise you, although in your estimation unjustly, let not your heart be troubled, receive it kindly, kiss the rod, acknowledge God in all things. For if your course is onward, your conduct upright before God and your brethren, all such chastisement will be to your advantage, will result in good and be beneficial instead of injurious to you, for those whom the Lord loveth he chasteneth

Praying God to bless you and enable you to discharge your duties satisfactorily to all good men, and to the confusion of the ungodly.

I remain, Your Brother in the Gospel

Brigham Young
