Gentlemen-

Your letter of inquiry, March 23d, is at hand. In reply I have to inform you that the
settlements in Utah are so new, and there are so many now here who are familiar with surveying and engineering, aside from those engaged in Government surveying, that, so far as I am informed, I see no paying opening in Utah for your being employed as you mention, nor any immediate prospect for your being so employed.
